Biodiversity and Habitat for Endangered Species (Criterion X)
Outstanding Universal Value
The Gochang Tidal Flat supports over 100 species and approximately 200,000 waterbirds, and serves as the largest wintering site in Korea for the endangered Oriental Stork (EN).
It is also the largest habitat of the Gobiidae fish Acanthogobius flavimanus, a Yellow Sea endemic species that represents the only species within its genus.
In addition, cheniers—sand ridges formed independently on top of mudflats—can be observed in this area.

It encompasses the most important and significant natural habitats in situ for biodiversity conservation, including those of threatened species of outstanding universal value from the perspective of science or conservation.
